Curriculum development

Nine new courses have been developed from scratch, each spanning a duration of two weeks and equating to 3 ECTS credits. 

These courses collectively constitute the foundational framework of the one-year HARMONEE research master program. 

In addition to completing these courses, students are required to undertake an individual 33 ECTS research project to fulfill the 60 ECTS credit requirement for the full master curriculum.

The developed courses are as follows: Introduction to Public Health: A Foundational Course, Global Health and Burden of Disease, One Health, Occupational Health, Environmental & Occupational Toxicology, Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases, Nutrition Concepts and Controversies, Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health, Healthcare Management.

SEMEY: Since the 2023-2024 academic year, SEMEY university has implemented “Healthcare Management” and “Nutrition concepts and controversies” modules for master students of “Medicine”, “Introduction to public health” and “Global health and burden of disease” modules for master students of “Public Health”, “Healthcare Management” and “One health”  modules for master students of “Management in healthcare” (4 master students ). 

Total 5 modules out of 9 have been implemented.  These modules are conducted in Kazakh and Russian languages. 

KARAGANDA: In response to the demands of employers, student interest, and other stakeholders’ needs, the KMU project team has diligently worked on the development and revision of several syllabi. 

These include:  

  1. “Health Promotion and Disease Prevention” (5 ECTS_MP_5_Health promotion and disease prevention_ENG.docx) 
  1. “Medical and Environmental Monitoring”, available in both English (5 ECTS_MP_5_Medical and environmental monitoring_ENG.doc) and Russian (5 ECTS_MP_5_Medical and environmental monitoring_RUS.doc) 
  1. “Urban Ecology” provided in Russian (5 ECTS_MP_5_Urban ecology_RUS.doc).

KHUJAND: Three courses have been introduced at Khujand State University: Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health, Nutrition Concepts and Controversies and Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases.These courses are taught in Tajik language within the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry, and Geo-ecology. 

KazNMU introduced as electives 5 modules in its Master in Public Health and 7 modules in the MSc in Medical preventive work. 

ATSMU: The University introduced Introduction to Public Health, One Health, Social and Behavioral aspect of Public Health and Health care Management in the specialty Public Health; 

Microbiology, Infectious diseases, Epidemiology of Non-communicable diseases, Global Burden of disease in its Epidemiology program; 

Occupational Health, Environmental & Occupational Toxicology, Epidemiology, Nutrition concept controversies in its Hygiene program. 

ISM Academic Council approved a new curriculum for MSc in Public Health program: they introduced 2 mandatory modules Introduction to Public Health and Health Care Management, the remaining 7 as electives.
